Avengers Assemble

With the Avengers movie still a few years away (and at least three of the roles as yet uncast), speculation is running wild. The main issue, of course, is who will the villain be. At some point, the writers of Iron Man gave their opinion, saying that the heroes should team up to take down The Incredible Hulk.

Fergus said: "I hope The Avengers embraces that. You don't want like 10 super-badass good guys fighting together. Where's the fun in that? Let's break it off a little. Friends or colleagues who become enemies is always an interesting thing because you know it's based on love and friendship and that's always the worst thing to have turn bad - someone you actually care about and someone you actually believe in."
I know every geek on the net has an opinion on this, and that I'm just one more raindrop in that hurricane. But I'm throwing out my two-cents anyway...

THE HULK NEEDS TO BE ON THE SIDE OF THE ANGELS.

So to speak, that is. I want to see him fighting alongside Cap and Iron Man against whatever threat they come up with. That is not to say, however, that I don't want to see him against the team at all. I want to see Hulk go toe-to-toe with Thor as much as anyone, but I don't think he should be the main villain. My thinking is that when they go to recruit him, Banner panics, transforms, and tries to fight his way out. This could easily be placed near the beginning of the movie (The Avengers can't be very short anyway) and satisfy all of our fanboy cravings.

As to who the villain should be? I'm thinking the most likely candidate is Ultron, but maybe Kang the Conqueror or a team of villains could be possibilities as well. It looks like they're going with an Ultimates approach anyway, so maybe a version of the Liberators from Ultimates 2.

Anyway, after all this talk of the Hulk smashing heroes, I'll leave you with this:
